Shively Christian Church Louisville, Kentucky Full-Time Position
Church Overview Shively Christian Church is a Christian Church located in Louisville, Kentucky. We are a community of imperfect people following Jesus. We seek to provide a safe space for all people to connect with God, grow in faith, and serve others, in order to see families cared for, the broken healed, and disciple makers sent out.
Our congregation averages around 175 people, with approximately 20 children from nursery through 5th grade currently involved in our children’s ministry.
Position Summary The Children’s Ministry Director will lead and oversee a gospel-centered children’s ministry for nursery through 5th grade. This individual will partner with parents, equip volunteers, and create environments where children can grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. This role reports directly to the Lead Minister and Elders.
Primary Responsibilities
Plan lessons and oversee all children’s ministry programming for:
Sunday morning worship and Sunday school
Wednesday night programming
Major children’s events throughout the year
Lead and support major ministry events including:
Easter Egg Hunt
Back-to-School Bash
Trunk-or-Treat
Christmas Party
Vacation Bible School (our largest outreach of the year)
Encourage and coordinate involvement with White Mills Christian Camp, including participation and volunteer opportunities as available
Plan and facilitate family nights and Sunday hangouts for children and families
Recruit, train, schedule, and care for volunteers (approximately 10 volunteers per Sunday; 40 total volunteers)
Ensure a safe, welcoming, and well‑organized ministry environment
Responsibly manage the annual children’s ministry budget
Work collaboratively with church staff and leadership to support the overall mission of the church
Spiritual & Character Expectations
Must have an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Must live a Christian life and maintain a household that reflects the values of Scripture and Shively Christian Church
Will be expected to attend a Bible study that is not led by the applicant
Demonstrates spiritual maturity, humility, integrity, and a heart for children and families
Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred, but not required
Previous children’s ministry experience preferred, but not required
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Passion for discipling children and partnering with parents
Compensation & Benefits Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience Insurance stipend and phone stipend provided Personal budget allotted for training, conferences, and materials related to personal and professional growth
