Amazon is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to lead our Global Corporate Employee Relations (GCER) team across the Asia Pacific, Japan, and China (APJC) region. This role is critical to Amazon’s mission of becoming “Earth’s Best Employer” by proactively managing employee relations risks and fostering positive employee experiences across our diverse APJC markets.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations, this senior leader will oversee and drive strategic initiatives across seven Amazon business lines in the APJC region.

Key Job Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute comprehensive employee relations strategies that foster positive workplace environments across APJC countries, with particular focus on Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and Vietnam

Lead assessments and proactive employee relations strategies

Partner with business leaders, legal teams, regional People eXperience and Technology (PXT) teams, and where applicable, employee representatives to build constructive relationships and address potential concerns proactively

Drive the development and implementation of Response Plans for all APJC countries

Oversee Employee Representative Body (ERB) program operations across the region

Team Leadership & Development

Manage and develop regional Employee Relations Managers

Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to direct reports on complex employee relations cases

Build capability within the local PXT and wider GCER team through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing initiatives

Collaborate with GCER leadership to ensure consistent global standards while adapting to local market requirements

Regional Program Management

Oversee the design and delivery of region-specific employee relations training programs

Lead cross-functional initiatives supporting business expansion and new market entry

Manage relationships with external consultants and legal advisors

Drive standardization of employee change processes across APJC markets

Coordinate with Americas and EMEA GCER teams to share best practices and maintain global consistency

Build and maintain effective working relationships with all workplace stakeholders to support positive employee experiences

Facilitate constructive dialogue between management and employees to support business objectives while addressing workforce needs

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

Support the wider PXT team to build and maintain relationships with government officials, labor departments, and regulatory bodies across APJC as required

Partner with business leaders to provide strategic counsel on employee relations matters

Collaborate with Legal, Public Policy, and Communications teams on sensitive Employee relations issues

Represent Amazon’s interests in employee-related forums and industry associations

Analytics & Reporting

Analyze regional employee relations trends, metrics, and sentiment data to inform strategic decisions

Provide regular reporting to GCER Director and senior leadership on regional risk assessments

Utilize predictive analytics tools to identify emerging employee relations risks

Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data insights and regional feedback

Working Conditions & Travel

Travel required (30–40%) across APJC region

Occasional travel to Seattle and other global Amazon locations

Flexibility to work across multiple time zones and respond to urgent situations

Some evening and weekend work may be required during critical situations

Success Metrics

Reduction in employee relations incidents and escalations across APJC region

Successful implementation of strategic plans in all countries

Employee sentiment improvements in key risk areas

Team development and retention metrics

Stakeholder satisfaction scores from business partners

Compliance with local employee regulations and Amazon policies

Basic Qualifications

Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization

5+ years of people management, including 2+ years as a manager of managers experience

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Human Resources Management, Employee Relations, Business/Management, Psychology, or a related field

12+ years of progressive experience in employee relations or human resources

Demonstrated experience managing employee relations in multiple APJC countries

Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations matters with a balanced, solutions-oriented approach

Experience building positive workplace relationships across diverse cultural and regulatory environments within Asia Pacific

Deep understanding of employment laws and regulations across key APJC markets

Strong analytical skills with experience using HR analytics and sentiment tracking tools

Proficiency in case management systems and employee relations databases

Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities

Strong crisis management and decision-making skills under pressure

Ability to influence and advise senior executives without direct authority

Demonstrated ability to “look around corners” and anticipate potential issues

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in technology, e-commerce, or logistics industries

Multilingual capabilities (English required; Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, or other APJC languages preferred)

Previous experience with Amazon or other large multinational corporations

Background in change management and organizational development

Experience with employee relations in high-growth or rapidly changing business environments
