Director, Strategic Investments (SPIN) Location: NY, NY

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Strategic Investments to join our Strategic Partnerships, Investment and Innovations team.

BNY’s Strategic Investments team (SPIN) is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing minority investments and strategic partnerships that accelerate the firm’s long‑term growth agenda. The team operates at the intersection of corporate strategy, M&A, venture investing, and product innovation, focusing on financial infrastructure, digital assets, data platforms, and next‑generation fintech.

The Director will play a leadership role in sourcing, diligencing, and executing transactions, partnering closely with senior executives across business lines to align investments with enterprise priorities.

Investment Execution

Lead end‑to‑end execution of strategic investments, including minority equity investments and joint ventures

Develop and oversee financial models, valuation frameworks, and transaction structuring

Manage due diligence processes across commercial, financial, legal, regulatory, risk and technology domains

Draft and present investment memoranda to senior leadership and governance committees

Deal Sourcing & Thematic Development

Proactively identify investment opportunities aligned with BNY’s strategic priorities (e.g., digital assets, tokenization, payments data/analytics, market infrastructure)

Build and maintain relationships with venture capital firms, founders, bankers, and ecosystem participants

Develop investment theses based on market trends, competitive dynamics, and client needs

Portfolio Management

Oversee performance and strategic alignment of existing portfolio companies

Represent BNY in board observer or governance roles where applicable

Identify opportunities to deepen commercial partnerships between BNY and portfolio companies

Strategic Advisory

Act as a thought partner to business leaders on inorganic growth opportunities

Support broader corporate strategy initiatives, including market entry analysis and competitive benchmarking

Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Product, Legal, Risk, Finance, Compliance) to ensure alignment and execution readiness

Leadership & Team Development

Mentor junior team members and contribute to a high‑performance investment culture

Drive best practices in investment evaluation, governance, and execution discipline

Qualifications

Experience:

8‑12+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, corporate development, or strategic investing within financial services or fintech

Demonstrated track record of leading complex transactions from origination through execution

Experience in fintech, financial infrastructure, or digital assets strongly preferred

Ability to assess technology platforms and business models (particularly in data, payments, custody, blockchain, or capital markets infrastructure)

Strong understanding of deal structuring, term sheets, financial modeling, valuation and shareholder agreements

Strategic & Commercial Acumen:

Ability to connect investment opportunities to enterprise‑level strategic priorities

Strong market awareness across financial services and emerging fintech ecosystems

Experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing decision‑making

Leadership & Communication:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of investment committee materials

Ability to operate in a highly matrixed organization with competing priorities

Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage multiple transactions simultaneously

Preferred Attributes:

Experience within a financial institution’s strategic investment or corporate venture arm

Familiarity with regulatory considerations in banking and financial markets

Network within fintech and venture ecosystems

MBA or equivalent advanced degree (preferred but not required)

Compensation Base salary for this position is expected to be between $102,000 and $226,000 per year at the commencement of employment. Base salary will be determined on an individualized basis, depending on experience and market location, and is only part of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentive packages, and company‑sponsored benefit programs. This position is at‑will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time.
