Summary As a Senior HV/BESS Estimator in our utility‑scale solar EPC company you will play a crucial role in successfully executing projects. You will work closely with estimators and various departments to accurately estimate costs and resources required for utility‑scale solar and BESS projects, providing firm bid/submittal documents and cost estimates. This position reports to the Senior HV/BESS Estimating Manager and may require up to 25% travel, with work hours Monday‑Friday, 8:00‑17:00 or 9:00‑18:00 local time.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities
Leadership & Management: coordinate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders, improve estimation process efficiency and accuracy.
Develop & manage cost models: use computer estimating software, create/compile estimates, develop assemblies.
Cost Estimation: prepare detailed cost estimates for utility‑scale solar projects, specifically HV Substation and BESS; analyze specifications; use historical data and market trends.
Review & validate subcontractor bids and quotations.
Resource Planning: collaborate with project managers, identify resource requirements, optimize allocation, develop labor productivity and installation unit costs.
Risk Management: identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, conduct sensitivity analysis.
Bid Preparation: prepare comprehensive bid proposals for RFPs and ITBs, ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
Vendor & Supplier Management: maintain relationships, evaluate performance, negotiate pricing agreements.
Quality Assurance: review estimates for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; implement QA processes.
General Requirements: understanding of EPC contracting, electrical theory, environmental, geotechnical, and hydrological reports; keep up‑to‑date on local building codes; create and maintain project directives; ability to travel.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or relevant certificate (or 3+ years experience).
3+ years experience in estimating and project management, with at least 3 years in utility‑scale solar, HV, BESS projects.
Background in commercial construction, electrical equipment supply, or power plant engineering.
Strong understanding of utility solar and battery storage installation Best Practices.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
Strong oral & written communication skills, computer fluency, negotiation skills.
Experience in construction‑related estimation (solar PV & BESS projects) preferred.
Proficiency in cost estimation software e.g., HCSS HeavyBid.
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, Procore.
Self‑motivated, superior organization, attention to detail.
Assertive, ability to cope with dynamic surroundings.
Proven leadership & management skills.
Physical Demands
Stationary: up to 90% time, sitting up to 8 hours/day.
Move/Traverse: infrequent bending, standing, stooping, walking.
Carry: infrequent lifting up to 10 pounds.
