IT Lead Mountain View, CA
MatX Inc., Mountain View, CA, United States
MatX builds vertically integrated full-stack solutions from silicon to systems for artificial general intelligence compute platforms. Between our hardware and software teams sits infrastructure — the build systems, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, security posture, endpoint fleet, and developer tooling that let a small team ship at the pace of a company ten times our size.
We're looking for a hands‑on Engineering/IT manager to own that infrastructure and the team that builds it. You will write infrastructure-as-code, debug build systems, triage CI failures, and push code — while also hiring, mentoring, and setting technical direction for a growing platform team.
What You'll Do Here
Lead a team of infrastructure and platform engineers — hire great people, set clear priorities, remove obstacles
Own and evolve our build systems, CI/CD pipelines (including self-hosted runners), and cloud infrastructure
Own cloud security posture — IAM policies, access controls, secrets management, and compliance
Manage the endpoint fleet — provisioning, configuration management, OS policies, and security across employee devices
Keep developer velocity high: fast builds, reliable tests, frictionless tooling across a polyglot codebase
Manage our compute fleet — CI bot scaling, cost optimization, container orchestration, and capacity planning
Build observability and alerting for build infrastructure, CI fleet health, and cloud resources
Monitor cloud spend, identify waste, and implement cost‑saving measures without sacrificing developer experience
Design onboarding automation so new engineers go from zero to productive with minimal friction
Establish disaster recovery and business continuity practices for critical infrastructure
Make the simple choice. Resist unnecessary abstraction. Ship the fix, not the framework
Who You Are
You’ve managed infrastructure or platform teams (3+ years) and still write code daily
Deep experience with cloud infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD systems, and build tooling
Fluent in at least one scripting language (Python, Shell, Go, or similar)
Understand networking, cloud security, and IAM — not just enough to configure them, but enough to audit them
Managing endpoint fleets and know the realities of device provisioning, patching, and policy enforcement
Default to the simplest approach that works. When you don’t know something, you say so. You verify before you assert
Comfortable context-switching across layers in a single afternoon — cloud state drift, then a container race condition, then a build rule review, then a laptop provisioning issue
Git hygiene matters to you. Clean history, logical commits, rebases done right
Thrive in small teams where ownership is real, not ceremonial
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience supporting hardware design teams (EDA tools, HDL build flows)
Track record of eliminating operational toil through automation rather than adding process
Experience with compliance frameworks or security audits in a startup context
Experience in both startup and larger corporate environments
Experience with MacOS management, Mosyle MDM, brew package manager
Compensation The US base salary for this full‑time position is determined based on a variety of factors including role, experience, location, job‑related skills, and relevant education and training. Career length is only a guideline for compensation.
