
Associate Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs - Infectious Diseases and Micro

The Associate Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs – Infectious Diseases and Microbiology will be responsible for the development, direction and execution of the medical and scientific strategic evidence generation, external engagement and study collaborations for the infectious disease serology and microbiology portfolios. This role will establish and collaborate with external partners, such as health care professionals and providers, and identify clinical and/or academic partners for clinical and scientific studies for current portfolio products. The Associate Director will also communicate study results through posters, publications and presentations to key internal and external stakeholders. This role works closely with global and regional marketing and commercial teams to provide medical and scientific input into strategic marketing strategies, promotional messaging and other post‑market activities for infectious disease serology and microbiology product launches.
Responsibilities
Perform gap analysis for Integrated Medical Plans for Infectious Disease/Microbiology; lead and develop Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) and identify evidence opportunities and execute studies.
Develop Infectious Disease/Microbiology patient journeys and disease maps together with the global franchise teams.
Develop and execute the study strategy, including authoring grants and producing study deliverables such as publications, posters and internal trainings, to support overall scientific and commercial product strategy.
Synthesize study results and communicate and/or integrate key findings into Medical and Scientific presentations or other collateral with the Medical Science Liaison and commercial teams.
Represent Beckman Coulter at external events, develop and execute Scientific Advisory Boards and communicate medical and scientific intelligence to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Advanced Degree: MD/PhD, MD, PhD, or PharmD with 9+ years of experience in the healthcare / research industry or equivalent; substantial understanding of relevant therapeutic area required.
Extensive knowledge of clinical and laboratory practice in the testing and diagnosis of infectious diseases (e.g., clinical virology, bacteriology, etc.) and knowledge of serologic, culture and AST methodologies.
Ability to design and develop medical and scientific research protocols and studies, including experience in medical writing and peer‑reviewed publication.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to synthesize and convey complex medical and scientific concepts.
Ability to work in a cross‑functional team environment and coordinate appropriate scientific and medical activities and deliverables with internal stakeholders (e.g., commercial, marketing).
Additional Preferred Experience
Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, including design and use of real‑world evidence, regulatory requirements governing clinical trials and experience in the design of protocols.
Experience working in clinical microbiology and/or clinical chemistry/immunology laboratories.
Board certification in Medical Microbiology, Medical Immunology or Clinical Chemistry from the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM), American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology (ABMLI), National Registry of Certified Chemists (NRCC), or equivalent certification.
Travel Requirement
Ability to travel a minimum of 20‑25% of the time (domestic and international).
Location / Remote Work This position may be fully remote, covering a global business area. Beckman Coulter also has major sites in South Florida, Southern California, Hebron Kentucky, Minneapolis Minnesota, as well as major hubs in Europe and Asia.
Salary and Benefits
The annual salary range for this role is $190,000 – $230,000. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
