Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Specialist or Executive level)
Zurich Insurance is looking for a Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Specialist or Executive level) to join our National Accounts Domestic Large Casualty team in our Chicago Office. This position will be based in Chicago with hybrid work flexibility. The role requires visibility in the market, meeting agents and brokers, and being in the office/market three days per week.
The role will be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist, Domestic Casualty or Executive Underwriter, Domestic Casualty based on experience.
Responsibilities:
Market-facing underwriter with strong technical expertise and experience working with brokers across the Midwest region.
Focus on Zurich’s domestic large casualty products, managing a renewal book while also driving new business opportunities.
Externally focused, with objectives centered on profitable growth and delivering superior service to broker partners and customers.
Apply and further develop underwriting and marketing skills within casualty lines of business.
Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business in accordance with The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework and within delegated authority levels.
Basic Qualifications – Underwriting Specialist:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPCU.
Advanced knowledge and practice in Primary Casualty lines.
Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.
Ability to assess risk effectively.
Ability to work in a team-based environment.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Pay & Benefits:
Salary range $75,000.00 – $165,000.00 (Underwriting Specialist $75,000.00 – $125,000.00; Executive Underwriter $100,000.00 – $165,000.00), with short‑term incentive bonuses of 10% and 15% respectively.
