Job Overview We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Redefining mobility requires quality data, metrics and analytics, as well as insightful interpreters and analysts. Global Data Insight & Analytics advises leadership on business conditions, customer needs and the competitive landscape, enabling key decision makers to act in meaningful, positive ways. Join us and use your data expertise and analytical skills to drive evidence-based, timely decision making.

Ford Motor Company's Global Data Insights & Analytics department crafts innovative services to prepare smart vehicles for a smart world. In the data science division we apply user experience principles to ensure our methods serve end users. We are an advanced team operating at the forefront of artificial intelligence, designing interfaces, intelligent systems, agentic workflows and dynamic data experiences.

Role Our product designers oversee a portfolio of product teams, identifying patterns and use cases to better serve end users. They apply a design thinking mindset, user research skills, and business strategy to align teams around a human‑centric roadmap.

For this role, we are looking for a technical Product Designer to define and execute the future of our AI‑driven Insight and Analytics products. You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, AI engineers and fellow designers. A hybrid skillset encompassing end‑to‑end product design, stakeholder management, compelling multimedia storytelling, and a technical AI toolkit is essential to success.

Research chops, strong leadership skills, and diversity of experience are all a plus. The role is based in Dearborn, MI and requires a four‑day onsite presence each week.

Responsibilities

Translate complex product requirements into intuitive user experiences for a suite of advanced analytics and AI‑driven products. Collaborate with Product Managers to shape the roadmap, manage the design backlog, and contribute UX requirements to PRDs.

Champion the user’s perspective throughout the product lifecycle. Conduct hands‑on generative and evaluative research (contextual inquiry, user interviews, usability testing) to identify friction points in complex data workflows and translate those needs into intuitive AI features.

Transform user research into actionable artifacts (journey maps, service blueprints, personas). Craft elegant, user‑centric flows and high‑fidelity interactive prototypes tailored for data‑rich, AI‑native environments.

Utilize a working knowledge of Python, AI agents, and modern LLM frameworks to build functional design prototypes and bridge the gap with engineering. Design seamless interactions that leverage Model Context Protocols (MCPs) to connect users with AI agents and internal data sources.

Partner with engineering to “bring data to life.” Design robust modular UI components and intuitive insights dashboards that allow users to easily interpret complex KPIs, interact dynamically with AI models, and take immediate action.

Translate complex AI concepts into clear, engaging visual narratives. Design and produce compelling product demo videos, walkthroughs and multimedia content to communicate design intent, user value and product vision to both technical and business stakeholders.

Advocate for your design decisions using research‑backed insights. Co‑facilitate design thinking sessions and workshops with data scientists, engineers and business stakeholders to solve ambiguous problems.

Balance user needs (desirability) with business objectives (viability) and technical feasibility (feasibility). Partner with Analytics to evaluate design success and iterate continuously on UI/UX features using usage data, NPS and direct customer feedback.

Ensure your designs integrate seamlessly within the broader digital ecosystem, creating a consistent, context‑aware experience across multiple user personas and analytics tools.

Key Characteristics

Empathy: curious about how other people work, live and think—especially when they are interacting with complex data and intelligent systems.

Systems thinking: the ability to see things holistically to design the best suitable solution, map out complex agentic workflows, and bring clarity out of an ambiguous, fast‑paced technical environment.

Balance: weighing users’ needs (desirability) with business requirements (viability) and the realities of AI and engineering constraints (feasibility).

Qualifications You’ll have

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

7+ years of post‑collegiate experience in UX research and interaction design, preferably for complex, data‑heavy or B2B applications.

5+ years of post‑collegiate experience in visual/UI design and data visualization.

1+ year of knowledge of Python and practical familiarity with modern AI frameworks, autonomous agents or Model Context Protocols (MCPs) for prototyping.

Demonstrated portfolio showcasing end‑to‑end product design, including interactive prototypes and solutions for complex data or AI‑native environment.

Even better if you have

Master’s degree in human‑computer interaction, human factors, psychology, communications, computer science or equivalent.

Passion for growing your skills, tackling challenging AI/data problems and sharing your learnings with others.

Ability to build credibility, trust and shared language with highly technical team members (data scientists, AI engineers) and senior leaders.

Flexibility to work on initiatives with unclear and rapidly changing requirements typical of bleeding‑edge AI development.

Expertise with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma), with willingness to prototype in code when necessary to prove out an AI interaction.

Experience with multimedia storytelling, such as designing and producing product demo videos, walkthroughs and compelling visual narratives.

Experience with designing written documentation (tech writing) to explain complex concepts simply.

Prior member of a Lean/Agile product team.
