Job Description and Position Requirements Upward Bound Programs (UBP), which includes Upward Bound/Upward Bound Migrant/Upward Bound Math and Science (UB/UBM/UBMS), is seeking Instructors for the 2025 Summer Academy, which will be held June 15– July 25. The program is federally funded and prepares low‑income, first‑generation high‑school students for college success.

Responsibilities

Deliver 20–30 hours of content‑area instruction focused on historically and culturally relevant, responsive learning for diverse high‑school students.

Attend 10–20 hours of professional development and orientation programming from April through the start of the Summer Academy in June.

Meet one‑on‑one with the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator prior to summer.

Create a course scope and sequence and submit it to the Upward Bound Curriculum and Pedagogy Coordinator by June 1, 2025.

Participate in weekly instructional staff meetings during the summer academy.

Serve as a second authorized adult in another course.

Participate in a scheduled “Meet Your Instructor” panel during the summer academy.

Build authentic, meaningful, and professional relationships with high‑school students.

Maintain all course materials and attendance records.

Attend all scheduled course sessions.

Communicate efficiently and clearly with all Upward Bound staff and residential mentors.

Qualifications

At least a bachelor’s degree with relevant teaching experience; or an undergraduate student majoring in education or a related field; or an undergraduate student with extensive teaching‑assistant experience.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Commitment to helping underrepresented students realize their potential.

Current background check with the University and clearances for adults working with minors (PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check). Failure to submit clearances before the Summer Academy will result in immediate dismissal.

Location and Compensation Remote and in‑person instructional positions are available. Salary is $3,500 per course taught.
