Overview

Assistant Director & Teacher – Sylvan Learning, Forest Park, IL The Assistant Director is responsible for delivering a high quality personal customer experience by ensuring that Sylvan education programs are delivered by teachers as designed, and that the ongoing education needs of Sylvan families are met. The role includes monitoring student performance, meeting regularly with families, coordinating with school teachers to apply classroom skills, observing and coaching teaching staff to ensure robust instructional experiences. Essential Responsibilities

Observe and coach instructional staff to ensure adherence to Sylvan’s Instructional Management guidelines and deliver balanced, robust instructional sessions Manage and deliver conference activities, including preparing materials and meeting with parents to maintain family enrollment Set weekly goals with staff to drive sales growth Select and hire teachers, ensuring all new staff meet Sylvan hiring standards Ensure teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs Schedule and manage teaching staff to meet center needs and control labor costs Partner with administrative staff to run day-to-day operations including customer account management Motivate and develop staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities Ensure initial and ongoing progress assessments are administered according to Sylvan standards and that staff administering assessments are trained and certified Monitor student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers to ensure programs meet student and family needs May be required to visit schools and establish partnerships for marketing purposes Check students in and out of the center with attention to safety and well-being Greet and assist students, parents, and potential customers according to Sylvan standards Required Knowledge

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Marketing, or Business or related field State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired) Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred Experience in a supervisor role preferred Knowledge of current educational policy Experience in retail and/or sales preferred Familiarity with instructional technology and tablet computers Experience using Microsoft Word and standard business applications Knowledge of general office equipment Experience using social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) preferred Skills & Abilities
