The Assistant Director of Health and Safety-Housing under limited supervision will be responsible for managing and providing overall leadership for safety, health, and regulatory compliance for the Housing Department. The position will act as the liaison between the University Health and Safety Department, Facilities Management Department, and Housing; review current compliance processes, recommend changes, implement adopted changes, and monitor and report on program effectiveness. The Assistant Director will lead investigations for indoor air quality (IAQ) and hazardous material (HAZMAT) issues, develop health emergency response plans, and oversee the asbestos, lead, and silica compliance programs. This role is essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies.
Responsibilities
Lead investigations of indoor air quality issues and hazardous material incidents, determining root causes and developing remedial actions.
Develop and implement health emergency response plans, including logistics and asset management, to guide the Department through disease or emergency health scenarios affecting residential populations.
Act as the Housing Department’s asbestos, lead, and silica program manager; build and maintain compliance programs for these materials.
Serve as a safety leader during emergencies and critical situations, ensuring a safe work and living environment.
Qualifications
Knowledge of applicable OSHA and EPA rules, regulations, and laws.
Experience with asbestos and lead program management.
Extensive knowledge of environmental and occupational health and safety standards and codes.
Working knowledge of test equipment used to investigate indoor air quality problems.
Proficiency with database, spreadsheet, word processing, and communications software.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, executive staff, and others at all levels.
Initiative and proactive attitude in performing duties.
Preferred Qualifications
American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC)
Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIE)
OSHA Construction 30 hr. certification and OSHA General Industry 30 hr. certification
