Principal Structuring Actuary (Reinsurance & BPA)
A leading UK life insurer is looking to hire a Principal Reinsurance Structuring Actuary to take a core role in shaping funded reinsurance execution across a major BPA franchise. This is a standout opportunity for someone with BPA or reinsurance structuring experience who wants to step into a more strategic, buy‑side environment with long‑term career growth. The position sits in a highly experienced team with access to a significant balance sheet, offering the chance to work on high‑impact transactions without the deal‑to‑deal pressures found on the reinsurance side.
The Role
Help lead the execution of funded reinsurance arrangements and longevity swap novations, working closely with BPA Deals, CIO, Finance, Risk, Tax and Reinsurance Operations.
Shape reinsurance frameworks.
Support counterparty approvals.
Take ownership of legal documentation – an area where actuarial expertise combined with contract fluency is particularly valued.
Why this could be the right step
Opportunity to work on the buy side, with a substantial annuity balance sheet behind you.
Broader and more strategic exposure than the transaction‑to‑transaction nature of reinsurance.
Ability to influence outcomes across the full BPA chain, not just the reinsurance component.
Highly experienced leadership offering strong career development and long‑term stability.
Interesting, intellectually demanding work involving structuring, legal documents, and cross‑functional engagement.
What's Needed
Experience in the BPA market or reinsurance structuring.
Strong understanding of annuity reinsurance, risk transfer or DB pensions.
Solid exposure to legal documentation and contract negotiation.
Inquisitive mindset – someone who probes and asks the right questions.
Qualified actuary and/or CFA preferred but not essential.
Market‑leading bonus on offer for a high‑performing individual.
