Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a senior leader to serve as
Senior Director, Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture
for the FAA BNATCS modernization program. This role is responsible for driving the transformation of legacy systems into a modern, information-centric National Airspace System (NAS) while ensuring the underlying facility infrastructure can support secure, resilient, and continuous 24/7 operations nationwide.
This position operates at the intersection of cloud architecture, systems engineering, and mission-critical facilities infrastructure, leading both digital and physical transformation across Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs), TRACONs, airport towers, and supporting communication sites. You will define strategy, govern execution, and ensure end-to-end integration of cloud platforms with facility readiness to enable next-generation NAS capabilities.

This position is required to be on-site, primarily located in Herndon, VA.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership & Architecture
Define and lead the enterprise cloud and infrastructure architecture strategy supporting NAS modernization
Drive transformation to hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud) aligned with mission and operational requirements
Establish architectural governance across cloud, systems, and facilities domains
Translate FAA mission needs into actionable, scalable, and secure technical strategies
Provide executive-level guidance and decision support on modernization priorities, risks, and investments
Cloud & Systems Modernization
Lead cloud adoption, migration, and application modernization strategies across mission-critical systems
Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and compliant with federal standards (FedRAMP, RMF, NIST 800-53)
Champion secure-by-design principles, including Zero Trust Architecture
Integrate cloud capabilities with operational systems including voice, automation, surveillance, telecom, and cybersecurity platforms
Drive adoption of AI Ops, observability, and low-latency/edge computing solutions
Facilities & Infrastructure Leadership
Lead the Facilities Workstream for BNATCS, overseeing infrastructure modernization and site readiness in partnership with key subcontractors
Ensure facilities support 24/7 operations through robust power, HVAC, cooling, grounding, fire suppression, and physical security systems
Establish and enforce standards for redundancy, resiliency (N+1, 2N), and Continuity of Operations (COOP)
Oversee site assessments, upgrades, new installations, and facility readiness for system deployments
Guide development and approval of facility design packages, implementation plans, and commissioning documentation
Integrated Program Execution
Ensure alignment between infrastructure upgrades and technology deployment timelines
Support and oversee FAT, SAT, ORRs, and operational transitions
Manage geographically distributed teams and contractors delivering nationwide infrastructure modernization
Identify and mitigate risks across both cloud and facility domains (capacity, cooling, latency, structural, geographic constraints)
Participate in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), design reviews, and executive readiness briefings
Operations, Performance & Governance
Ensure compliance with FAA standards, federal regulations, safety requirements, and sustainability mandates
Oversee lifecycle management of facility and infrastructure assets (UPS, generators, electrical, mechanical systems)
Validate service levels for uptime, resiliency, and operational performance
Establish continuous improvement processes and feedback loops to evolve architecture and facility standards
Serve as P&L lead for the Infrastructure & Facilities workstream, including subcontractor oversight and SOW management
Collaboration & Leadership
Lead cross-functional collaboration across engineering, cybersecurity, operations, facilities, and program leadership
Partner with FAA stakeholders, subcontractors, and executive leadership to align delivery with cost, schedule, and risk objectives
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences
Foster a culture of accountability, systems thinking, safety, and mission focus

Qualifications Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship Required.
Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
18 years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, or program leadership
Deep expertise in hybrid/multi-cloud environments and application modernization strategies
Strong knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks (FedRAMP, RMF, NIST 800-53) and Zero Trust principles
Extensive experience supporting large-scale federal, DoD, or aviation programs
Experience with mission-critical or safety-critical systems requiring 24/7 uptime
Proven leadership of cross-functional teams across engineering, infrastructure, and operations
Experience with ITIL and integrating cloud into IT service management (ITSM)
Strong understanding of facility infrastructure systems (power, HVAC, cooling, physical security) supporting high-availability environments
Experience managing subcontractors, budgets, and P&L responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with FAA systems, NAS programs, or aviation infrastructure (ARTCC, TRACON, towers)

Target Salary Range
$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. EEO
