Overview
Merrick & Company is looking for a Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in Albuquerque, NM or Los Alamos, NM. This group specializes in designing prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom‑designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full‑time position. The senior designer works directly with the team to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages for custom equipment such as containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small‑scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal‑working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels. Pay range for this position is $40.25 – $52.00 per hour. What You’ll Do
Detailed design activities include preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models; creating detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluating and selecting purchased components; creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets. The designer establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables and is responsible for maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders. The senior designer directs the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product, provides checking support for deliverables, and conducts design activities following regimented quality assurance/quality control procedures. Additional responsibilities include holding team meetings and instructional presentations, developing best practices in CAD usage, mentoring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews for team members. Required Qualifications
Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in related field. Expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill. Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, including development of design documentation such as fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets, and design record documents. Ability to acquire a security clearance. U.S. Citizenship required for client projects. Desired Qualifications
Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments. Familiarity with other 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equivalent), 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Autodesk Revit. Associate degree. PERKS
