Summary
Director of Interpreter and Cross-Cultural Services (ICCS) provides assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice for interpreter, translation, and cross-cultural services. The role leads the growth and implementation of ICCS initiatives across Maine Medical Center and the MaineHealth system, serves as liaison to external agencies on regulatory compliance and language access, and develops a Language Access Plan supporting Maine Health’s mission, vision, and values. The Director ensures the plan meets accreditation and regulatory requirements, oversees written and spoken language programs, collaborates with senior leadership, medical staff, and operational functions such as Corporate Compliance, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Medical Staff Office. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare-related field with language studies; Master’s preferred. Certification: Consistent with MaineHealth’s Interpreter Services Competency plan. Experience: 5-7 years of progressive leadership in language services, 3 years supervisory, and 3 years in Limited English Proficiency programs. Knowledge of professional language principles, federal and state laws, quality improvement, and health service delivery. Skills in performance management, systems thinking, negotiation, change management, data management, and financial management. Communication: Verbal and written skills to facilitate meetings with staff, departments, clinicians, and administrators. Leadership: Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, motivate diverse work groups, and lead the department’s productivity. Community: Understanding of interpreter and cross-cultural service support networks, vendors, and cultural challenges. Benefits
