Job Description
The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. It leads efforts to make the city more affordable, reduce inequality, improve public safety, and strengthen the economy while valuing leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency. The Mayor’s Office actively seeks diverse talents to join its team. The Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) has served as the liaison between the NYC government and the disability community for half a century. In partnership with city offices and agencies, MOPD ensures initiatives, programs, and policies address the needs of people with disabilities and actively engages in advocacy and policymaking at all levels. Responsibilities
Strategic:
Work as part of MOPD’s leadership team to develop and implement long‑term and short‑term strategic plans for disability access and inclusion in NYC. Support and collaborate with existing local organizations in NYC and nationally in disability justice and related fields. Lead convenings on intersectional social justice movements (e.g., immigration, civil rights, LGBTQ+) and coordinate with other MOPD cities. Assist the policy and communications teams and develop targeted research on disability issues.
Engagement:
Supervise 3 Community Advocates to assist with their work on training, workshops, and advocacy from MOPD. Partner with the Assistant Commissioner to provide training and workshops to city staff on disability justice. Collaborate with the Chief of Staff to develop community partnerships with elected officials at the city, state, and federal levels.
Active participation in MOPD Leadership meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Desired Attributes
Excellent communication and persuasion skills with disability rights organizations and external stakeholders. Team player who is professional and enjoys working collaboratively. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. 5+ years of relevant experience. Cover letter required with resume. Additional Information
