Job Summary The Patient Account Representative is responsible for the daily billing of claims to third party payers, follow‑up, and “status” of claims to ensure timely and appropriate processing and payment.
Essential Functions
Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
Processes billing daily, reviewing bills for correctness and completeness prior to submission.
Maintains a clear, concise, and complete history on each account according to established procedure.
Reviews and works denials, mail, returns, rejections, appeals, refunds and requests for additional information as per policy in a timely and accurate manner.
Understands and performs follow‑up processes for accounts on a daily basis and works accounts according to established procedure.
Minimum Qualifications 18 years of age. Six (6) months previous insurance billing experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of third‑party billing and claims processing, knowledge of medical terminology, computer experience, and computer skills, including keyboarding. Knowledge of ICD‑10, CPT Coding and previous experience in a health care setting preferred. Need excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to adapt to frequent change.
Working Conditions Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Physical Requirements Constantly sit, see/visual acuity. Frequently handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear. Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.
