Job Summary: To perform patient financial service functions such as scanning, filing, receiving and reviewing correspondence, reviewing third-party and patient billing, and review and resolution of billing questions, at an introductory level. Ensures financial success for University of Mississippi Medical Center through diligent approach to work and attention to detail.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Basic knowledge of medical claims processing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Maintains professional standards.
Effective organizational skills.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and basic data entry.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic knowledge of revenue cycle functions.
Attention to detail; ability to read, write, type, and follow directions.
Ability to work independently and with others; good interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
Engages in core revenue cycle functions such as billing, claims filing, data entry, charge entry, insurance follow up, denial management, payment posting, customer service, and billing records review.
Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA guidelines and regulations; complies with policies and department guidelines.
Prepares and submits clean claims to insurance companies electronically or on paper in an accurate, timely and compliant manner.
Processes assigned reports, worklists, and patient accounts with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Collaborates with management and co-workers in an open and positive manner.
Communicates with patients regarding their accounts, answers billing questions, and provides information on payment options.
Verifies patient insurance coverage and benefits, and coordinates with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies.

Physical And Environmental Demands Requires occasional exposure to a high-noise environment and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional working hours beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travel to offsite locations, no activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced is subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, and routine physical activity including occasional bending, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, 25 pounds, 50 pounds, or 75 pounds; occasional climbing, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. (Occasional-up to 20%, frequent 21% to 50%, constant 51% or more)
Requirements Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of related revenue cycle experience
Certifications, Licenses Or Registration Required:
N/A
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of ICD-10/HCPCS/CPT coding
Basic knowledge of third-party insurance and government insurance plans
