The

Counter Salesperson

provides over-the-counter direct sales to customers, takes orders in-person and by phone, and supports the overall success of the

Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts

store operations through promotion of sales programs and other customer and team-related activities. Sales activities focus on aftermarket automotive replacement parts, and may include the sale of heavy‑duty parts, auto and industrial paint, and body shop supplies and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.

Demonstrate courteous, respectful, and kind conduct toward every employee and customer.

Cooperate and coordinate well with coworkers and as a team member.

Perform job duties in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company safety guidelines, practices, and policies.

Maintain neat, clean, and professional appearance.

Provide exceptional customer service including assisting in determining parts needed, offering options to solve customer problems, and diffusing situations involving an upset or dissatisfied customer.

Research part’s availability through computer and catalogues for stock numbers, inventory status, and pricing.

Locate and pull parts for orders, check in, put up, straighten, dust, and rearrange stock as needed on the sales floor and back rooms/warehouse.

Handle cash and credit transactions; properly invoice/credit customer accounts.

Prioritize the order of delivery items and assign deliveries to drivers, if applicable.

Correctly handle new and defective core returns from customers, insure proper customer credit and complete necessary paperwork.

Open and/or close the store if given key holder responsibility.

Work home store inventory/assist in other location’s inventory, if assigned. Clean (pick‑up trash, sweep, mop, etc.) and maintain inside and outside of building area. Adhere to scheduled work time unless authorized by a manager. Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent experience or motivation to pursue a GED. One year of professional automotive parts experience or two years of hobbyist automotive parts experience preferred.

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills Basic computer knowledge including web browsing and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver's license (Class E required for all Missouri locations) and clean driving record.

Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
