
Produce Clerk

Reports To: Produce Manager
Job Title: Produce Clerk I
FLSA Status: Hourly
Responsible for working closely with all produce associates to ensure company policies and procedures are followed, department goals are achieved, and associates' needs are met.
Produce Associates provide a high standard of care to quality, nutritious fruits and vegetables to ensure they are fresh & delicious for the families within our communities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provides customer service to guests.
Assist guests with finding items on or off the sales floor.
Takes orders and other special requests.
Answers the telephone and assists callers using proper phone etiquette.
Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues; escalates to Produce Department Manager if necessary.
Stocks and maintains product levels: fills all items on display, rotates products using FIFO, follows display standards, keeps sales floor clean and tidy, and maintains produce supplies (e.g., roll bags, twist ties).
Log Sheets: takes temperatures regularly, fills out rotation sheets daily, and records shrink daily.
Maintains Produce Cooler: rotates items within the cooler using FIFO and keeps it clean and organized at all times.
Product Order: responsible for ordering some products (e.g., dips, spices, herbs).
Other duties as assigned.
Maintains regular, timely attendance with adequate notice for absences.
Qualifications
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel.
Good oral and written communication skills; ability to handle a diverse crew in a highly stressful environment.
Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.
Ability to apply on‑the‑job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards on store premises, with proper training and knowledge of slicers, lifting techniques, trash compactor, and baler.
Knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills; able to make timely and effective decisions.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
Lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Full range of upper body motion.
Must be able to work at a fast pace.
May be exposed to extreme temperatures.
Work Schedule
Produce Clerk is a part‑time hourly position, scheduled 16‑20 hours a week.
Shift to be worked will vary, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
