Overview

This position is responsible for the investigation and resolution of subrogation claims primarily for our Property, Homeowner,Workers Compensation, and General Liability lines of business. This individual reviews and concludes by settlement or closureassigned claims through commonly accepted subrogation practices. They are skilled in analyzing liability and investigative dataand to make prompt and sound decisions. They possess strong resolution skills through the use of negotiation, arbitration,mediation and litigation. The individual in this position will ensure claims are processed within company policies, procedures,and individual prescribed authority with exceptional standards of performance. All job duties and responsibilities must be carriedout in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Review assigned claims (which can be complex or high exposure) and determine appropriate course of action to identify and pursue recovery.
  • Analyze loss details, explore subrogation potential, identify additional investigation which may be necessary in support of subrogation, settle claims through appropriate resolution methods, secure appropriate releases, process recovery checks, and return insured deductible when applicable.
  • Document claim file timely and accurately. Ensure proper follow-up through diary system. Proactively commuicate with key stakeholders in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Engage staff or panel counsel as needed to assist with subrogation and litigation efforts. Collaborate with LOB adjusters and attorneys in determining the need for experts to investigate subrogation potential and preserve evidence.
  • Process incoming calls and correspondence from insureds, claimants, agents, underwriters, attorneys, and other key stakeholders regarding questions or problems associated with subrogation efforts.
  • Utilize Intercompay Arbitration effectively to assist with timely recoveries on disputed or denied subrogation claims.
  • Seek management approval for settlement values outside established authority levels. Participate in claims reviews and settlement conferences based on complexity and loss exposure.
  • Ensure compliance with company, state and federal regulations. Remain current on industry trends and laws related to subrogation procedures within our footprint.
  • Effectively manage the litigation process and work collaboratively with counsel to reach optimal recovery outcomes for Selective.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of claims handling and subrogation to assist co-workers and field personnel.

  • Analyze (wc, auto, GL, HO,Property) policy language and endorsements pertaining to subrogation.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Damage and liabilityevaluation skills.

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Well versed with rules and regulations ofIntercompany Arbitration, strong ability to formulate winning contentions and able to assist field personnel with questions.

  • Understanding of Statute of Limitations and Statute of Repose and the importance of protecting them.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred

  • 3 - 5 years claims experience preferred

  • 2+ years subrogation experience preferred

  • Must have valid state adjuster licenses

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $73,000.00 - USD $94,000.00 /Yr.
