Overview:
This role supports the visual direction and production of a monthly magazine and related brand initiatives, including editorial layouts, photoshoots, and event materials. The position collaborates closely with the Design Director and cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality design across print and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute story ideas and editorial planning.
- Design editorial pages for each issue, collaborating with the Design Director to maintain a consistent visual voice.
- Conceptualize and design feature stories, partnering on layout direction and visual storytelling.
- Coordinate and art direct photoshoots, including developing concepts and managing communication between photographers, subjects, and internal teams.
- Source and commission illustrators, including researching talent, pitching projects, and providing creative direction.
- Edit and refine photography to meet publication standards.
- Design auxiliary editorial projects, and additional magazine-related materials.
- Design advertorials, special sections and client projects, securing creative approval from both internal and external teams.
- Create print and digital assets for events, including promotional, logistical, and recap materials (shared across team).
- Assist the digital editor with web and social media graphic.
- Manage production logistics such as organizing files and maintaining asset libraries.
Qualifications:
- An appreciation for Indianapolis and its stories
- Strong editorial design skills with a keen eye for typography, layout, and visual storytelling
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
