Smith Miller Associates is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Director / Senior HVAC Engineer to lead and grow our mechanical engineering practice.
This role is ideal for an experienced consulting engineer who wants more than a traditional management role. We're looking for someone interested in leading projects, mentoring engineers, expanding the mechanical practice, and ultimately becoming an owner in the firm.
Smith Miller Associates is a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm specializing in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems . Our engineers support projects from concept and design through construction administration and post-construction services.
Projects include commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, educational campuses, and complex building systems , and our collaborative structure allows engineers to stay involved throughout the full project lifecycle.
This role offers a clear path to ownership along with a flexible hybrid work schedule.
What You'll Do
- Lead the mechanical engineering department
- Oversee HVAC and building mechanical system design
- Manage and mentor engineers and designers
- Coordinate with electrical and plumbing engineering teams
- Work directly with architects, owners, and contractors
- Support business development and strategic growth
- Guide projects from concept through construction
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- PE license required
- 10+ years of experience in MEP / HVAC consulting engineering
- Experience leading projects or engineering teams
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and building mechanical design
