Our Client, a well-established, facilities services firm located in Berkeley, California is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Safety and Risk Management. This is a high-impact leadership role with direct visibility to the C-Suite and will have the auhority to shape how safety is embedded into every facet of the operation.
What You'll Do Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety programs and policies across all operations, ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and all relevant regulations. Lead data-driven safety initiatives to reduce injury frequency, claim severity, and overall risk exposure, and provide expert guidance on workplace safety and risk mitigation. Track, analyze, and report safety metrics—including incident rates, claim trends, and loss prevention opportunities—to support executive and operational decision-making. Design and deliver engaging safety training and certification programs, maintain compliance records, and coordinate operational safety certifications for equipment and specialized operations. Oversee workers’ compensation claims management, conduct accident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and collaborate with HR and insurance stakeholders. Partner with executives and operational leaders to embed safety into daily operations, lead company-wide safety communications, meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Need 8+ years of progressive safety leadership in facilities services, engineering operations, construction, industrial services, or similar field environments Proven success leading workplace safety programs and workers’ compensation risk across multi-site operations Strong working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable federal and state safety regulations Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence teams and stakeholders at all levels Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred Experience working in union environments preferred Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred Relevant certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHA 30, or OSHA Authorized Trainer preferred Additional training credentials such as First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, Aerial/Scissor Lift Trainer, or Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, and Lockout/Tagout certifications are a plus
