About the Role A market‑leading geotechnical engineering and ground improvement business is seeking a Director of Technology to lead innovation, research, and advanced engineering development across its technical portfolio.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the future of ground improvement technologies, overseeing R&D initiatives, and embedding advanced engineering approaches into design and construction practices. The role sits at leadership level and partners closely with Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams to support growth, technical excellence, and delivery of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership for geotechnical technologies, design methodologies, and engineering practices
Act as a technical authority and thought leader in ground improvement and geotechnical engineering
Lead the development, validation, and implementation of new and existing ground improvement technologies and construction methods
Oversee technical quality, consistency, and compliance across engineering design and field execution
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and commercial stakeholders on complex projects, proposals, and client solutions
Drive research, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on performance, constructability, and efficiency
Mentor and develop engineering and technical teams, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability
Represent the organisation in client meetings, technical forums, and professional or industry associations
Stay current with evolving codes, standards, digital tools, and emerging technologies in geotechnical engineering
Experience & Skills Required
10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering and/or geotechnical construction
5+ years in a technical leadership role, managing engineers or specialist teams
Strong technical background in:
Ground improvement systems
Foundation engineering
Geotechnical design and construction methods
Proven ability to translate advanced technical concepts into practical, buildable solutions
Demonstrated experience working across engineering, operations, and commercial functions
Ability to influence senior stakeholders and act as a trusted technical advisor
Experience developing value‑added engineering solutions, systems, or specifications
Comfortable operating within a matrixed organization
Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Experience with digital engineering tools, numerical modelling, and experimental or test‑based work
Willingness to travel approximately 10-15%
Education & Credentials
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (required)
Preference for advanced expertise in geotechnics, numerical modelling, or applied analysis
PhD strongly preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) licence beneficial but not essential
