About this Position Lake Michigan Credit Union is seeking a detail‑oriented and member‑focused Consumer Lending Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting our members’ financial goals by evaluating loan applications, making sound credit decisions, and delivering an exceptional member experience. This position is ideal for a lending professional who combines strong analytical skills with a passion for helping others navigate their financial needs.

What you’ll do

Interview loan applicants to gather information about their financial needs, income, and overall financial condition.

Analyze applicants’ financial profiles, credit reports, and supporting documentation to assess risk and determine loan eligibility.

Approve, deny, or escalate loan applications in accordance with established lending policies and authority limits.

Educate members on available loan products, helping them understand options and select the best solution for their needs.

Establish loan terms and clearly communicate conditions, rates, and repayment expectations to members.

Prepare and review loan documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Process and authorize servicing actions such as collateral releases, loan modifications, due date changes, payment deferrals, or waivers.

Monitor funded loans to ensure adherence to terms and coordinate with collections when necessary.

Participate in sales and business development activities to support lending growth.

Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in consumer lending.

Preferred Education and Experience

3–5 years of experience in consumer lending, underwriting, or a related financial services role.

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in finance, business, or a related field is a plus.
