ASU Zone Operations Director - West Point, VA The ASU Zone Operations Director has overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all facilities used in the production of medical cryogenic liquids and industrial pipeline gases on a Zone basis. These duties include quality control, personnel staffing and training issues; safety, health and environmental regulatory compliance; process optimization, equipment maintenance and supervision of operating and capital expenditures. The Zone Director reports to the Vice President of ASU Operations.

This position is remotely located within the operating zone.

Essential Functions

Achievement of all safety, production, efficiency, quality and budgetary targets for the Zone

Responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining zone performance metrics, communicating expectations to applicable stakeholders, and holding execution teams accountable through reporting and coordination with field operations management.

Business Leader for the zone, ensuring profitability, efficiency and TRW targets are met

Provide expert oversight for operational safety programs, including Loss Prevention, SafeStart, Smith, and Risk Assessments (RAs).

Cultivate strong working relationships with Plant Management, the ROC, Reliability, and ASU Engineering to ensure organizational alignment.

Assist with data and budgetary preparations and presentations.

Support the recruiting and hiring of Managers and technicians within the Zone

Support Regional Managers with the implementation and execution of all Department Initiatives

Willingness to be “on call “ 24/7 for plant needs of any kind, (personnel, equipment, customer problems)

Complete knowledge of all MTG safety, compliance and quality policies.

Complete knowledge of all MTG personnel policies as they relate to ASU’s

Complete knowledge of all in-zone pipeline contracts and obligations

Serve as Special Project Manager for Improvement Programs as assigned by the Vice President of Operations

Qualifications Education

Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, with preference for Chemical or Mechanical Disciplines

Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Master’s degree or MBA (Preferred)

Work Experience

12+ years progressive operations experience in industrial gas, LNG, petrochemical, or cryogenic process operations.

8+ years in a senior engineering or operations leadership role with direct reports, including management of other managers or lead engineers (Preferred)

8+ years demonstrated experience managing geographically distributed teams and multi-site operations. (Preferred)

8+ years hands‑on background with ASU process engineering, cryogenic systems, or air separation technology. (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience interacting with Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies (FDA, EPA, OSHA, DHS, etc.)

Experience implementing and maintaining quality systems including ISO 9001-2015 and FSSC 22000

Experience implementing and maintaining Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Understanding the principles of Cryogenic Air Separation

Understanding the mechanical principles of rotating equipment

Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook.

Understanding of General Accounting Techniques

Advanced statistical and analytical skills

Possession of a valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Comfortable with public speaking

Advanced ability to create and present materials to various levels of management

Physical Demands Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Requires extended periods of computer use and occasional night or weekend remote support. Field coverage may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts and extreme cold, high or precarious places, and high noise levels. The role will also involve occasional on‑site travel to Matheson facilities across the zone and to the central office.

Travel Requirements Extensive travel within the zone and to the central office required (estimated 50% of the time).

Compensation $180,000 - $210,000 per year.
