About the Role Cornerstone Truss & Components is seeking an
experienced
and detail-oriented
Truss Designer
to join our growing design team. This role plays a critical part in transforming architectural plans into accurate, optimized structural component designs used by builders across the region.
Using MiTek or similar design software, the Truss Designer creates layouts and placement plans for roof trusses, floor trusses, wall panels, and engineered wood products. This position works closely with estimators, engineers, builders, and production teams to ensure designs are structurally sound, code-compliant, and efficient to manufacture.

What You’ll Do
Design roof and floor truss systems for residential, multifamily, and commercial construction projects using MiTek or similar design software
Interpret architectural plans and structural drawings to ensure designs meet engineering requirements and building codes
Prepare truss placement plans, layout drawings, and supporting documentation for production
Generate material lists and assist with project estimates when required
Optimize designs for efficient manufacturing and economical material use
Coordinate with estimators, engineers, and production teams to ensure projects move smoothly from design to manufacturing
Communicate with builders and internal teams to resolve design questions or plan discrepancies
Maintain accurate project files and documentation for all assigned work
Manage multiple projects while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail

Requirements What You Bring
Strong ability to read and interpret architectural plans, blueprints, and structural drawings
Experience designing truss systems using MiTek, Alpine, or similar component design software
Solid understanding of structural and construction principles
Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills
Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of truss design experience
Knowledge of load paths, tributary loads, concentrated loads, and structural load transfer
Familiarity with current building codes and truss design standards
Experience working with roof trusses, floor trusses, wall panels, or engineered wood products
Physical Demands
Primarily office-based design work using computer systems and design software
Occasional visits to the production facility or yard to review designs with production teams
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
Ability to communicate clearly with team members in both office and production environments
Work Location: In person - Potential for Hybrid
