Mine Health & Safety Director (Underground Mining)
Location: Gouverneur, New York (On-Site)

This is not a policy-driven safety role.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for driving safety performance across an active underground mining operation.
You’ll take ownership of compliance, culture, and continuous improvement, working directly with operational leadership to ensure safety is embedded into how the mine runs day to day.
The Role
Lead the development of a strong, accountable safety culture across site
Act as the primary point of contact for MSHA, including inspector visits and compliance management
Conduct and lead audits across underground and surface operations
Drive hazard evaluations, risk assessments, and corrective actions
Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and prevention strategies
Advise operational leadership on safety performance and improvement opportunities
Oversee safety coordinators and training functions across site
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
What Matters
Proven experience in Health & Safety within mining (underground strongly preferred)
Confidence operating as the lead contact for regulatory bodies (MSHA experience essential)
Strong track record in risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action
Experience building and sustaining a safety culture in an operational environment
Ability to influence, challenge, and work closely with site leadership
Experience managing or leading safety teams
MSHA certifications (Blue Card IU / IS / MM) highly desirable

High accountability role reporting into senior operational leadership
Site-based position requiring full on-site presence
