HVAC Principal Designer – Greenville, SC
Requirements
Highly skilled in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with demonstrated experience in advanced 3D modeling (S3D preferred)
Use drafting applications to originate and produce drawings and 3D models of moderate to advanced complexity
Read, interpret, and generate design drawings with minimal supervision; walk down field systems, interpret field direction, generate advanced design details, create new drawings, modify existing ones, and direct, check, and approve work done by other designers
Develop estimates, schedules, staffing requirements, progress reports, key quantities tracking reports, and project scope documentation; conduct review of models using 3D review platform
Apply project drawing standards to design drawings and 3D layout
Prepare 2D CAD drawings of advanced complexity
Review drawings and vendor equipment documentation for compliance with project requirements and actively seek discrepancy resolution
Perform bulk material take‑off analysis and tabulations
Adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
SP3D HVAC Package, Microstation, AutoCAD
Navigate Navisworks
Size ductwork and HVAC equipment
Bluebeam experience
Develop Air Flow Diagrams (AFDs)
Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Follow P&ID and develop SP3D model to support the project
Nuclear experience
Background and experience in drafting/design engineering fields such as electrical, mechanical, structural, communications, architectural, fire protection, or civil
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and standards applicable to specialized (nuclear or other) engineering design
Effective communication with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Job‑related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
Attention to detail and ability to work in a time‑conscious manner
Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
Practical field experience
Intermediate computer and software skills, including word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheet, and electronic presentation programs
Must be able to complete an HVAC Designer Skills and Experience Self‑Assessment Form
Education
A combination of education and 15 years of experience (associate degree preferred) in drafting related to engineering and construction; nuclear preferred
