Primary Purpose:
The High School Head Choir Director is responsible for teaching an overview of musical elements and styles to beginning students, teaching vocal techniques and choral skills to the choir students, and providing curricular opportunities for the use of these skills in accordance with the District’s philosophies, procedures, policies, and programs.

Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Preferred:
Three years of teaching and choir directing experience
Special Knowledge / Skills
Knowledge of the overall operation of a vocal music program
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing choir and extracurricular activities
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Coordinate with the Director of Performing and Visual Arts to develop a curriculum for the Choral Music Program consistent with District guidelines.
Teach general music courses which include singing, listening, music reading, and creative activities.
Teach vocal music through girls’ choir, mixed choir, sight‑reading, ear training, individual and ensemble work, and preparation of performances.
Encourage respect for and enjoyment of public performance and emphasize good sportsmanship in competition.
Plan effective evaluation of and record‑keeping for student performance.
Organize performances and curricular activities for the choral music program.
Plan and schedule concerts, seasonal programs, entertainment at assembly programs, and competitive events in cooperation with the building calendar.
Schedule and oversee rehearsals for productions and competitive events.
Arrange transportation and chaperones for activities as needed.
Assume responsibility for administration of the choral music program.
Plan the use of budgeted funds and activity funds, requisition supplies, oversee selection and care of uniforms, and maintain accurate inventory records of equipment and uniforms.
Demonstrate appropriate standards for citizenship, sportsmanship, and professionalism in behavior and performance of duties.
Remain current in the field of choral music through professional organizations, literature, workshops, and in‑service programs.
Coordinate activities with the booster club and serve as a liaison between the booster club and school administration.
Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal and the Director of Performing and Visual Arts.
Comply with the position description of the classroom teacher.
Working Conditions The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and frequent district and occasional statewide travel. The position may involve prolonged and irregular hours, outdoor and indoor work, and exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Mental demands include problem‑solving, data interpretation, application of current research and theory, effective oral and written communication, and emotional control under stress.
