Orange Media Network - Copy Editor Position Title: Orange Media Network - Copy Editor for the 2026–2027 academic year (Student Employee).

Position Summary The Copy Editor works closely with editors of all OMN publications to proofread and edit written content for print and online, ensuring compliance with AP Style and internal standards.

Responsibilities

Fact‑check, copyedit and proofread all written materials for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and AP Style.

Assist with covering and copyediting breaking news and sports as needed, including nights and weekends.

Review contributors’ notes and recordings to verify accuracy before publication.

Attend weekly editor and redmark meetings and production sessions as directed.

Respond to emails, messages, team chats, and phone calls the same day.

Use Basecamp for project management and promptly report any ethical or legal issues.

Follow OMN policies and procedures and promote equitable representation.

Other duties as assigned by the editor.

Qualifications

Knowledgeable in news values and fact‑checking strategies.

Familiar with or willing to learn AP Style and the SPJ Code of Ethics.

Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Strong writer, communicator, and comfortable with public speaking.

Organized, reliable, and adept at coaching and receiving feedback.

Strong professional demeanor in challenging situations.

Completed all elements of the On‑Boarding Curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous paid OMN writer for at least one term.

Prior attendance at OMN Fall Training.

Knowledge of AP Style.

Compensation and Work Schedule

Employment Dates: Sept. 8, 2026 ― June 15, 2027.

10 hours per week, $652 per month.

Min. hourly rate: $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non‑Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro).

Max. hourly rate: $21.50 (Standard); $21.00 (Non‑Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro).
