Job Description Provide appropriate learning experiences for students (age 3-21) with a range of disabilities (moderate to intense and/or mild to moderate) in an alternative education program. Work collaboratively in a high‑skilled team to design personalized learning plans, deliver lessons, and support behavior and academic progress.
Responsibilities
Contribute to a highly collaborative IEP/Service Plan process.
Contribute evaluative data in a timely manner for completion of triennial Evaluation Team Report.
Build meaningful connections and trust with students to cultivate a positive learning environment according to the individual needs of each student.
Foster a positive working relationship with teaching assistants, related service providers, intervention specialists, contracted service providers, administration, families, and school district personnel.
Collaboratively develop and teach engaging lessons that are grounded in best practice and evidence‑based methods and utilize appropriate curriculum resources.
Uphold the core beliefs of the program.
Use positive behavioral strategies to support a high‑quality learning environment.
Complete functional behavior assessments and design behavior support plans using a team‑based approach.
Provide specialized instruction, accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology services for students with disabilities.
Maintain timely and accurate student records and complete quarterly progress reports on IEP goals and academic report cards.
Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings with families, district representatives, and team members.
Maintain accurate and complete student records including timely completion of IEP and ETR documents and lesson planning.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
Collect data as evidence of goal progress and attainment.Continuously develop professional skills by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and workshops.
Monitor the completion of personal care for students served, such as toileting, feeding, etc. by staff, as directed in the participant's individual plans (IPs). Assist with the completion of these tasks as necessary.
Coordinate classroom teaching assistants for program implementation, in accordance with policies and procedures, to maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
Delegate duties to teaching assistants in collaboration with the program managers, program supervisors, and related service providers.
Communicate with administration and curriculum manager when problems arise with classroom staff or students.
Other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in special education.
Current ODE license as a K‑12 Intervention Specialist.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Passionate, collaborative, and energetic disposition.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Commitment to professional development.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and use sound judgment.
Proficient in computer applications including MS Office Suite, email, and internet.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Possess a valid Ohio driver's license with no more than two moving violations and have reliable daily transportation.
Preferred: Experience with severe and multiple disabilities.
Preferred: Minimum of 2‑3 years teaching experience.
