About Larchmont Yacht Club Founded in 1880, Larchmont Yacht Club is one of the most respected yacht clubs in the United States. Located 16 miles from New York City on an 11‑acre waterfront campus, the Club is known for its strong community culture and exceptional recreational programming. Members enjoy sailing, tennis, paddle, swimming, diving, and a range of youth programs that define the summer season.

The Pool Program is a central part of the member experience. From family swim to competitive events and youth instruction, the pool complex is active, well‑attended, and held to the highest standards of safety and service. The Assistant Pool Director plays a critical role in delivering that experience.

Position Summary The Assistant Pool Director supports the overall leadership, safety, and daily operations of the Club’s aquatic facilities. Reporting to the Pool Director, this role combines hands‑on supervision with team leadership and operational oversight.

You will help manage lifeguards and instructors, maintain compliance with health and safety standards, and ensure members and guests enjoy a well‑run, welcoming environment. This position is well suited for experienced aquatics professionals, physical education teachers, swim coaches, recreation leaders, and educators seeking a high‑level summer leadership opportunity.

This is not just a lifeguarding role. It is a management position that requires accountability, initiative, and a strong understanding of aquatic operations.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with seasonal opening and closing of all pool facilities

Oversee daily pool operations, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and compliance with local health codes and club policies

Supervise, schedule, and support lifeguards and aquatic staff to ensure strong coverage and performance

Provide on‑deck leadership during peak hours, swim lessons, and special events

Monitor water chemistry and filtration systems in coordination with the Maintenance team

Enforce pool rules consistently and professionally

Respond to emergencies and administer first aid when necessary

Support swim instruction programming, camp swim sessions, and member events

Conduct staff training, provide mentoring, and assist with performance evaluations

Maintain accurate documentation including chemical logs, incident reports, schedules, and inventory

Deliver a member‑focused experience that reflects the Club’s high standards

Ideal Background We are seeking candidates who bring both technical knowledge and leadership presence. Competitive applicants often have experience in:

Pool management or assistant pool management

Swim coaching or competitive swimming

Physical education instruction

Recreation management

Camp aquatic leadership

Private club or high‑volume aquatic facility operations

Qualifications Required:

Minimum of 2 years of aquatic supervision or pool management experience

Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Current CPR and First Aid Certification

Experience teaching swim lessons

Strong understanding of aquatic safety regulations and water chemistry

Demonstrated leadership and team management skills

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Management, Health Sciences, or related field

Certified Pool Operator Certification

Experience in a private club or high‑service environment

Background as a competitive swimmer or swim coach

Work Environment

Outdoor pool setting with exposure to heat, humidity, and pool chemicals

Active, high‑energy environment requiring consistent attentiveness

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting

Fast‑paced setting during peak member usage and holiday weekends

Schedule

Full‑time seasonal employment from Memorial Day through Labor Day

Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Mandatory availability for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends
