SHORT-TERM INTERIM ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, STUDENT HOUSING
Hourly Rate: $29.54 | 28‑40 hours per week | Open until filled.
Overview Under the direction of the Director of Student Housing, the Assistant Director supports planning, organization, control, and direction of the Student Housing Department. Responsibilities include supervising student leaders and resident assistants, coordinating campus activities, addressing student conduct issues, responding to emergencies, and managing correspondence. The position is live‑in and focuses on building an inclusive community that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Essential:
Assist in planning and facilitating student employee selection and training; provide day‑to‑day supervision of Resident Assistants (RA); conduct RA meetings; interview and select student employees; recommend transfers, reassignments, terminations, and disciplinary actions.
Essential:
Respond to student conduct issues of residence hall students under the Director’s direction; provide leadership and advice regarding conduct matters; track trends and identify improvement areas.
Coordinate, schedule, and lead campus break‑period teams for maintenance, preparation of rooms, cleaning, repairs, damage assessment, and furniture itemization.
Assist coordination of campus‑wide and off‑campus student activities with clubs, departments, and community partners; serve as advisor or co‑advisor with the ASB Student Government and national organizations.
Coordinate room selection, prepare residence hall correspondence (applications, licenses, fees, contracts), and respond to housing issues including ID cards, lockouts, repairs, mediation, etc.
Assist in preparing narrative and statistical reports, records, and files related to personnel and activities.
Transport students, residents, conference participants, student‑led programs, and equipment as needed.
Serve as a member of the District’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and collaborate on follow‑up processes for at‑risk students.
Participate in governance committees and support accreditation processes.
Provide active nightly duty coverages with RAs, counsel, and manage housing situations, including emergencies, prioritizing student safety.
Act as Campus Security Authority outlined by the Clery Act.
Assist the Director with additional duties as assigned.
Perform related duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, college administration, counseling, or a related discipline.
One to two years of direct experience working with students in an educational setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in residential life, student housing, or student affairs.
Experience coordinating or directing collegiate‑level activities, advising student groups.
Work experience or training in providing referrals and crisis management.
Experience planning student activities and/or events.
Experience coordinating student leadership training programs.
Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California driver’s license (must be obtained within three months of hire).
May be required to travel for off‑site meetings, training, conferences, workshops, and events.
Occasional travel is expected.
Live in a district‑owned semi‑furnished one‑bedroom apartment with utilities provided.
Eat meals in the campus dining room using a district‑supplied meal plan.
Employee must be on call weekends, nights, and holidays.

Budget preparation and control, facilities management, and program planning.
Higher education curriculum, instruction, and residential program development.

Contract negotiation, vendor management, and partnership development.
Event planning, promotion, publicity, and execution.
Judicial affairs, adjudication, and service‑training delivery.
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) proficiency.
Electronic and manual record‑keeping; data analysis; report generation.
Effective verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills; conflict resolution.
Computer and peripheral equipment operation; basic mathematical skills.
Physical and Mental Demands Employees routinely sit or stand for extended periods, use hands repetitively, reach, bend, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision and color discrimination. Mental demands include communication skills, data interpretation, problem solving, mathematics, and handling complex, time‑constrained tasks involving interaction with diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment Work involves on‑call, weekend, night, and holiday hours. Employees may work indoors and outdoors, using radio communication devices, Wi‑Fi‑dependent phones, and standard office equipment.
