Job Summary / Description Primarily responsible for news production systems. Tasks include installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all broadcast and news systems to ensure clean on‑air and digital performance. The Broadcast Engineer provides support for the studio and field operations of the TV station with broadcast/news and production systems, performs troubleshooting of hardware and software problems on all broadcast equipment, provides prompt service in support of the daily News Department operations and other station departments, and performs preventative maintenance as appropriate on equipment. The role also involves installing, updating, and documenting equipment changes, responding to, communicating, managing, and tracking on‑air technical issues in a live 24/7 production environment with appropriate urgency; collaborating with Atlanta engineering management to identify technical needs, design workflows/systems, and implement solutions; following Atlanta technology management, company, and industry standards for installation and documentation of new systems; and performing supervisory duties for the station’s newscast automation operators (technical directors).
Qualifications / Requirements
Associate’s degree in Electronics or Computer Science, or equivalent broadcast television experience.
Two years of experience maintaining technical equipment in a television broadcast or post‑production facility preferred.
Must possess a positive work attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with others.
Ability to prioritize and make changes to work plans without loss of efficiency or composure, while managing multiple projects.
Ability to communicate efficiently with varying disciplines and personalities.
Strong technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to articulate the troubleshooting process to peers.
Strong IT knowledge of computer networking, hardware, and software maintenance, and virtual computing platforms required.
Comprehensive understanding of production workflows in television – operational familiarity with multiple NRCS, NLE, and automation platforms.
