TITLE:
Assistant Activity Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a valid teaching certificate, coaching endorsement, and three years experience teaching and coaching or equivalent qualifications.
REPORTS TO:
Activity Director
SUPERVISES:
Assists Activity Director with supervising fine arts and athletics.
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide each Clear Creek Amana student an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities through efficient and effective leadership and coordination of the athletic/activity programs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Terms and conditions as established by the Board of Education.
Job Responsibilities
Assist Activity Director (AD) by providing leadership and support to all extracurricular programs for the district.
Assist AD with developing a vision with all the head coaches for their particular sport.
Use a district approved evaluation tool to evaluate assigned coaches or sponsors.
Assist alignment between high school and middle school programs.
Delegate administrative and maintenance procedures and duties.
Create academic supports for athletes.
Collaborate with the AD and Director of Communications to provide updates on activity news using district approved platforms.
Create consistent and equitable award ceremonies for each sport
Assist with the development of acceptable behavior policies for athletes
Ensure all head coaches are receive financial training
Responsible for making sure the athletic website is up to date
Ensure the athletic activities, clubs and fine art programs are represented on social media
Ensure all coaches follow district guidelines
Event setup and teardown.
Coordinate concession stands at events.
Knowledge of how to use card readers for admissions, or willingness to learn.
Help recruit additional community volunteers when needed.
Facilitate positive working relationships with the booster groups that support our athletic, activity, and fine arts groups.
Administer and manage the activity program in a manner that is within Board policy and consistent with established district procedures, conference and state rules and regulations.
Keep the high school and middle school administration informed of important accomplishments, needs and problems in all areas of the operation of the athletic activities.
Coordinate and assist in the recruiting, interviewing, screening and recommending of qualified persons to fill openings on the middle school and high school athletics coaching staff.
Submit personnel recommendations to the district concerning appointment, retention, promotion, and evaluation and assignment of middle and high school coaching staff.
Assist with evaluating head coaches annually at the high school and middle school level.
Contract officials, athletic trainer, police, and ambulance services as required, assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
Fosters good school-community relations.
Foster a climate between athletic programs in which students can develop good citizenship through self-discipline, self-direction and cooperative participation.
Hold parent/athlete meetings and coaches' meetings.
Develops, places into operation, and enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of extra-curricular activities.
Coordination of events and membership in the state and conference.
Represent the district as a designee at local, state or national meetings as required.
Enforces the state and district academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each high school activity and verifies each student's eligibility.
Work with district personnel to ensure that student-athletes are participating in their legal place of attendance/residency.
Ensure middle school and high school coaches are certified and meet district requirements.
Provide professional development opportunities for middle school and high school coaches.
Establish and adhere to a regular schedule of inspection of all district athletic education facilities and installations to maintain and improve their safety.
Play a key role in developing, promoting, and modeling principles of good sportsmanship.
Coordinate with the director of buildings & grounds for the installation of new and additional equipment at the high school and middle school programs.
Develop athletic schedules for the middle school and high school that will provide for the maximum effective, efficient, and equitable use of equipment and facilities.
Maintain current rosters of all students participating in the high school and middle school athletic programs.
Schedule all games and practice athletic events for middle school and high school.
Arrange transportation to away games and events for all middle school and high school athletic activities.
Oversees the keeping of all necessary administrative records related to activities.
Assist with preparing and administering the high school athletic program building budget.
Actively promote continuing participation of athletes from the middle school and work toward development of skill sequences in the middle school leading to high school participation.
Assist with insurance claims involving school athletes and work with district central office personnel for all processing of reports.
Assist with supervision of all ticket sales and fundraising events of the high school athletic program and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
Develops and maintains a recognition program for high school and middle school athletes/activities.
Assume other responsibilities and perform other such duties as may be assigned by the activities director.
Provide supervision and support for all athletic and intramural programs at the local high school and middle school level.
Ensure local schools are aware of state and local board policies, state standards
Assist with monitoring individual school athletic budgets.
Inspect, review, and supervise the use of athletic facilities and the process for maintenance, repair, and service of equipment.
Review the Athletic and Coaches Handbook annually.
Attend functions and activities including athletic contests, school board meetings, and WAMAC meetings.
Serve as liaison representative with Johnson County and Iowa County Parks and Recreation.
Review a required inventory report with each head coach in order to plan for and prioritize future purchases.
Coordinate professional learning opportunities for coaches.
Ensure world-class customer service is provided by the Activities Office, which includes speaking to parents, staff, students and others in the community.
Direct the continuous improvement efforts for all processes.
Manage the High School Performing Arts Center (PAC) - training support staff, scheduling coverage and coordination of the events with approved staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
