Associate Director Academically Talented Youth Program

Associate Director - Academically Talented Youth Program Overview Directs all aspects of the University’s Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP) and ensures its success through effective, data-driven, and sustainable practices based on research and best practices in gifted education.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and vision for ATYP, developing programs and activities while researching best practices and trends.

Evaluates the program consistently to determine the effectiveness of services.

Supervises program staff, overseeing hiring, supervision, training, evaluation, and implementation of policies and procedures.

Teaches an ATYP course annually.

Ensures the program curriculum meets Michigan public school requirements and refines curriculum to meet benchmarks; schedules classes and selects textbooks.

Manages financial and budgetary accountability, seeks new funding opportunities, provides budgeting support, and prepares and analyzes budget reports.

Acts as liaison between the department, campus partners, community and external partners, representing the program locally, statewide, and nationally.

Assists the director of Pre‑College Programming as needed.

Stays current on changes and national trends in gifted education.

Serves as Advanced Placement Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Three years of relevant experience.

Experience with gifted students and/or directing a program for gifted students.

Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of relevant experience with gifted students.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent organizational and planning skills.

Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, parents, school district personnel, state organizations, and the university.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands; occasional lifting/moving of materials less than 25 pounds.

Work performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors.
