Hall Manager

The Hall Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of an assigned residence hall while fostering a strong sense of community that supports student learning and success. This position creates a safe, inclusive, and supportive living-learning environment by supervising all residence hall staff, coordinating programs that promote engagement, and addressing student needs or conduct concerns. The Hall Manager also collaborates with campus partners to connect students with resources, enhance the residential experience, and ensure the residence hall operates effectively.

Essential Functions

Manage residence hall to provide a supportive, quality living environment

Supervise, recruit, train, schedule, and oversee payroll for Residence Hall Front Desk Staff and Resident Assistants

Provide ongoing training, feedback, and evaluation to all supervised staff, supporting their professional growth and leadership development

Create and implement educational, social, and recreational activities for students

Manage and track a hall programming budget, ensuring responsible use of funds

Project a high degree of visibility, student engagement, and availability to all students

Provide prompt, accurate, and efficient admittance: check-ins, check-outs, room inventory, and room inspections

Respond and assist in handling of all emergency situations according to the emergency response plan (e.g., fire, health, safety)

Maintain complete and accurate resident records

Know and enforce all College policies concerning student conduct in the residence hall and report to the Director of Housing and Residence Life and/or Dean of Student Life

Investigate policy violations within the residence hall and conduct judicial meetings with students in violation of College policies, documenting outcomes and reporting to the Director of Housing & Residence Life as appropriate

Ability to direct or move students to safety in emergency situations

Work effectively both autonomously and as a team member

Provide resources and support to students through referrals to appropriate college office

Collaborate with other housing staff and Midland College departments to support student success and enhance the residential experience

Assess and report on student engagement, programming outcomes, and hall needs to support continuous improvement

Foster an inclusive residential environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds

Advise and mentor student leaders within the residence hall community

Submit and track work orders to ensure the residence hall is properly maintained and safety procedures are followed

Actively participate in on-campus events and serve on committees that support student success and engagement

Support and attend campus activities and events

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Associate's Degree or completion of 60 college credit hours (or equivalent)

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

Strong clerical, computer, and organizational skills

Ability to exercise initiative and work independently

Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of successful work with a diverse student population

Exceptional time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload

Position requires tact, diplomacy, and maintaining a high level of confidentiality of all students and their records

Live on campus and participate in the manager on-call rotation

Able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to meet student's needs

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in student affairs, student personnel, higher education, counseling, kinesiology, or closely related field

Knowledge of student development theory

Previous work experience in Residence Halls or related student affairs work experience

Physical Demands

Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (approximately 50% of the time)

Use of manual dexterity

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus

The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move from office to other locations on campus
