Primary Purpose Of The Organizational Unit The purpose of the UNCG Financial Aid Office is to provide students and their families with the resources necessary for financing the pursuit of higher education. Funding options administered by the FAO include need‑based, non‑need‑based, grant, scholarship, loan, work study, federal, state, institutional, and outside monies. In addition, the primary purposes of the FAO are:

To develop policy and implement procedures that work with regulatory compliance for the $200,000,000 in financial aid assistance administered yearly by the University.

To assist in realizing the mission and ideals of the University.

To offer effective and timely communication of financial aid eligibility criteria and receipt guidelines to the entire University community.

To work to provide a quality environment and enriching experience to all members of the University community.

To work collaboratively with other university offices to achieve success of the university.

To develop goals in recruitment, retention, and graduation rates with respect to our policies and procedures.

Position Summary This position oversees all aspects of the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy and process and the Return to Title Four Process. These are two areas with high compliance‑related activity. This position also oversees the Unusual Enrollment History process. This position works with students, faculty, and staff to execute the processes involved in this role. This position is also expected to provide executive‑level reporting with comparison data analysis. This position requires the Assistant Director to have an expert level of knowledge of financial aid policy, discernment skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Relevant Master’s degree or relevant Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in Financial Aid, Higher Education, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree and five years of relevant financial aid experience.

Key Responsibility: Administration of Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards

Develops and maintains policies and procedures for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as well as other related activities in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies. Incorporates industry best practices as appropriate.

Processes SAP evaluations in the Banner student information system on an ongoing basis and ensures appropriate communications are sent to affected students.

Manages SAP appeal processing to include making first appeal decisions, coordinating with other staff members to review first and second appeals, and facilitating a university‑level committee for 3rd and final appeals.

Communicates with students, parents, and UNCG faculty/staff regarding SAP appeal processes, requirements, decisions, and escalated complaints.

Prepares executive‑level summary reporting of SAP activity with year‑over‑year comparisons.

Reviews data and appeal documentation for students flagged with Unusual Enrollment History (UEH) indicator on FAFSA.

Key Responsibility: Oversight of Certifications and Licensures Program Eligibility

Tracks completion of graduate certificate and teacher licensure certifications forms to ensure that students in these programs comply with enrollment regulations.

Assists with other duties as needed based on the needs of the department.

Key Responsibility: Support the Senior Assistant Director for Grants

Assist the Senior Assistant Director for Grants with support in areas such as State Grants, Federal Grants, and Reconciliation of Scholarship Accounts.

Serves as a secondary resource in the absence of the Senior Assistant Director for Grants.

Key Responsibility: Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) Administration

Collaborates with the Associate Director for Development and maintains policies and procedures for Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) as well as other related activities in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies. Incorporates industry best practices as appropriate.

Utilizes reports to identify students subject to R2T4 rules based on official full withdrawal.

Contact UNCG faculty to clarify the last dates of academic activity and other relevant information to ensure R2T4 reviews are accurate.

Performs R2T4 calculation to determine return federal aid in accordance with federal law and communicates with students regarding such returns as well as post‑withdrawal eligibility when applicable.

Advise students, staff, and faculty regarding implications of R2T4 policy.
