Job Title: Audio-Visual (AV) Systems Support & Commissioning Specialist
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: Direct hire
The Audio-Visual (AV) Systems Support & Commissioning Specialist is responsible for the testing, commissioning, and optimization of complex AV systems during and after installation. This role provides technical leadership on projects, ensures systems meet design specifications, and collaborates closely with project teams to deliver high-quality, fully functional solutions. The specialist also supports troubleshooting, system configuration, and client training.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural drawings
Perform point-to-point testing and verification of AV system functionality
Review project Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure installation quality and completeness
Test and troubleshoot integrated AV systems, including control and DSP components
Upload, download, and support control system programming (e.g., Crestron, AMX)
Make minor programming adjustments under direction of engineering teams
Fine-tune audio and video systems to achieve optimal performance
Configure IP-based devices and ensure proper network communication
Create, manage, and resolve project punch lists
Document system testing results and commissioning activities
Provide client training and system handoff documentation
Act as a customer liaison when the Project Manager is unavailable
Required Qualifications
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and internal teams
Proven business and technical writing skills
Proficiency with AV test and calibration equipment
Experience supporting user acceptance testing (UAT)
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex AV system issues
Working knowledge of audio, video, and control signal flow
Understanding of IP networking fundamentals
Basic programming experience with AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, AMX)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines independently
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
Physical ability to lift equipment and work at heights (up to 35 feet)
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Formal education in Electronics or a related field
5+ years of AV installation or commissioning experience
Experience with enterprise video conferencing platforms such as:
Zoom
Microsoft Teams
Google Meet
Familiarity with enterprise AV and telepresence systems
Industry certifications such as AVIXA CTS
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent military experience may substitute for work experience
This role involves both on-site and fieldwork, including working on ladders, handling AV equipment, and supporting installations in various environments.
