Job Description Bardstown Child Care Program – Child Care Director

Qualifications

At least 3 years previous experience as Director of a Type I Licensed Childcare Program.

Preferred: Kentucky Director’s Credential; alternatively reviewed: Childcare Development Associate or related degree with proof of related director or manager experience.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Accounting and bookkeeping background helpful.

Organized and detail oriented.

Job Summary

Responsible for the administrative functions of the school system’s three childcare programs, including but not limited to ensuring the safety and well‑being of children; hiring, training, and evaluating program employees; monitoring income and expenses; budgeting; payroll; preparing periodic reports; ensuring quality standards; enrolling new children; newsletter and correspondence; seeking and writing grants.

Job Duties

Set the tone for the facility, manage curriculum, oversee physical facilities, hire staff, manage overall image.

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws governing child care.

Ensure health, safety, and comfort of children by maintaining required records, daily attendance, equipment standards, incident reporting, and safety drills.

Maintain compliance of physical facilities with laws and safety requirements.

Evaluate needs and purchase equipment and supplies.

Interview, hire, and train new staff; develop job descriptions; manage staff development and disciplinary processes.

Verify staff meet job requirements prior to employment (background checks, TB, CAN, etc.).

Work with staff to develop curriculum that complies with state and federal requirements.

Ensure staff complete annual professional development plans.

Conduct and document staff meetings; conduct performance evaluations.

Coordinate staff training opportunities ensuring required 15 hours annually and first aid/CPR training.

Maintain personal qualifications: complete 18 hours of continuing education courses each year.

Serve as the face of the program, manage communications with parents and community; develop and communicate policies; meet with prospective parents.

Finance: develop annual budget with finance officer; manage accounting; process tuition billing; manage delinquent accounts; bill state agencies.

Collaborate with other department directors; work with early childhood center for continuity and best practice; assist special needs children.

Conduct annual en‑re‑registration, pre‑enrollment for school breaks; plan field trips and activities; manage transportation bookings.

Purchase and manage supplies and snacks; produce monthly snack menus; submit monthly meals record.

Accept new responsibilities and perform other tasks as requested.
