Assistant Director of Sports Marketing and Fan Engagement – Hampton, VA 23668
The Assistant Director of Sports Marketing and Fan Engagement is responsible for developing and executing strategic marketing, promotions, and fan experience initiatives designed to grow the Hampton Pirates brand, increase fan attendance and engagement, and drive revenue through ticket sales, sponsorship integration, and community outreach. This person serves as a key member of the Athletics External Affairs team and works collaboratively across athletics and university partners.
Examples of Duties
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans to increase attendance and revenue for all home sporting events.
Create and implement advertising and promotional strategies across traditional and digital platforms (including email, PPC/paid media, and lead generation).
Collaborate with ticket sales and service teams to maximize ticket revenue via targeted campaigns and strategic planning.
Enhance fan experience through creative engagement initiatives, community partnerships, and affinity programs that build long-term fan loyalty.
Lead digital marketing efforts across social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to boost fan engagement and department visibility
Act as a primary Athletics contact for external fan and community engagement requests (e.g., mascot appearances, outreach partnerships, and donation opportunities)
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned that support departmental and university objectives
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sports Management, Communications, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in sports marketing, ticket sales, fan experience, or related promotional roles.
Strong interpersonal, communication, planning, and project management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of marketing principles.
Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, staff, sponsors, and student-athletes.
Demonstrated experience supervising junior staff or volunteers.
