Job Description Overview We are seeking a driven and collaborative Deputy Organizing Director to help lead our statewide student organizing program for the 2026 cycle. Students in Michigan have the power to decide the future, but only if we meet them where they are with organizing that empowers them as leaders.

For Michigan is building durable, student-led programs that register, educate, and mobilize young voters through relational, creative, and values-driven work. The Deputy Organizing Director will play a critical role in executing this vision: strengthening our fellowship program, leading relational organizing efforts, and supporting the Organizing Director in running a high-impact statewide program.

This role will begin in July 2026 and run through November 2026.

What will you do? We are looking for a Deputy Organizing Director who understands that the strongest teams empower leadership at every level. In 2026, we will run an adaptive organizing program committed to achieving ambitious goals while building student leadership and tactical flexibility into every facet of our program.

The Deputy Organizing Director will report to the Organizing Director and work closely with senior leadership to:

Organizing Department Support

Assist the Organizing Director in coaching and supporting RODs and campus organizers, including weekly check‑ins, field planning, and troubleshooting

Assist the Organizing Director in the daily management of RODs and deploy to regions across the state as needed

Support the execution of statewide mobilizations such as Welcome Week, voter registration pushes, early vote weekends, Dry Runs, GOT EV, and GOTV

Help ensure data integrity, program accountability, and alignment between staff, fellows, and volunteers

Other responsibilities: collaborate across departments (data, digital, communications, operations) to ensure smooth program execution

Step in for the Organizing Director when needed to represent the organizing department in meetings or trainings

Perform other duties as assigned

Who Are You? A successful candidate for this role will have:

At least two cycles of campaign experience, with experience managing fellows, interns, or campus organizers preferred

Strong understanding of relational organizing tactics and tools, with experience training and coaching others in their use

Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and develop young leaders

Excellent organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and a solutions‑oriented mindset

Familiarity with VAN/Votebuilder, Empower, and Google Suite (especially Google Sheets)

Physical Requirements

Remain in a stationary position for long periods while operating a computer and other office machinery

Move around inside an office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Show flexibility to work extensive hours outside of normal operating hours

Remain stationary while driving or riding as a passenger because extensive statewide travel is necessary

Job Details The compensation for this position starts at $6,300/month and includes a generous benefits package. This position is full time, at‑will, and terminable at any time without or with cause. This position is in‑person based in Detroit, Michigan.
