Job Description Farm operations management and supervision. Supervises farm operations personnel responsible for field plot preparation, planting, crop production, harvesting, operation of equipment in experimental and extension demonstration plots, and general farm maintenance. Establishes operational objectives, workflows, and timelines to ensure efficient and effective field operations. Incumbent is required to drive a state vehicle in the performance of the job to various locations on and off the farm.
Budgeting, Policy, and Reporting Prepares, manages, and implements the research facility’s operating budget. Recommends, develops, and enforces facility operating policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and support long‑term sustainability. Prepares annual farm production and operational reports.
Research and Program Coordination Coordinates and collaborates with faculty and Center staff in the planning, implementation, and execution of research experiments, outreach activities, and teaching initiatives. Works closely with the Center Director to coordinate and oversee overall research center field operations.
Equipment Maintenance and Safety Develops, implements, and oversees a preventive maintenance and repair program for farm equipment and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Performs other duties as assigned.
Must have or obtain a pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days.
Salary:
$53,000/yr - $65,000/yr commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience managing an agricultural operation and supervising staff. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required number of years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of operation of all equipment as necessary for timely land preparation, fertilization, and cultivation of experimental plots of field crops
Knowledge in operation of harvest equipment
Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments
Knowledge of mechanical operation of tractors, machinery and automobiles to diagnose repair needs and procure parts
Ability to supervise people and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to record and maintain records requiring knowledge of basic arithmetical calculations
Ability to communicate effectively and pay close attention to detail
