The Logistics Company Household Goods Specialist Lead Job Summary SUMMARY:

The Household Goods Specialist Lead explains entitlements and procedures to military members and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees shipping and/or storing personal property in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), Federal Travel Regulation (FTR), Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR) Part IV Personal Property, or other Military Service regulations. Provides courteous and efficient personal property movement services. Personal property includes household goods, unaccompanied baggage, mobile homes, boats, privately-owned vehicles (POV), and non-temporary storage. The Household Goods Specialist works under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor who provides direction and work policies. Refers complex cases to supervisor for clarification or interpretation of policy, procedures, and regulations. Provides guidance and technical expertise to his/her work section in order to accomplish tasks assigned by the supervisor. Completes paperwork and reports, assigns tasks, interfaces with customers, and performs duties listed within their job description.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Brief personnel on the extent of transportation allowances and entitlements to ship property at government expense, place property in temporary/non-temporary storage, restrictions at the next temporary or permanent duty station, responsibility for overweight charges, responsibility for charges incurred by exceeding the authorized storage period, shipment of privately owned motor vehicles and mobile homes.

Advise property owners about Full Replacement Value (FRV) Insurance provided by Transportation Service Providers. Guide individuals with loss, damage, or mold of household goods due to improper storage or shipment, including claims process timelines for settlement processing.

Ensure individuals have all required documentation, orders, and amendments. Interpret orders to determine and explain authorized entitlements and weight allowances. Receive, monitor, and process all mail-in applications. Maintain shipment records, prepare, and process shipping and storage documents using automated transportation system(s).

Assist personnel who use Self-Counsel in the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) to arrange movement and/or storage of personal property.

Coordinate with property owners, carriers, agents, inspectors, and other installations to clear inbound shipments for direct delivery to a residence or for placement in storage-in-transit (SIT). Arrange re-weigh with commercial carriers when requested. Ensure a Quality Control representative witnesses all re-weigh to the maximum extent possible.

Research, compile, type, and submit multiple reports, documents, messages, forms, letters, and rates pertaining to shipment and storage of personal property. Ensure adequacy and accuracy of final product.

Establish, prepare, and maintain all files related to shipment or storage of personal property.

Receive, review, interpret, and apply new and revised changes to service regulations, rates, tariffs, tenders, and routing guides.

Counsel personnel who wish to perform a Personally Procured Move (PPM) and assist in closing out vouchers with Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).

Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.

Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards.

Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL's) associated with assigned functional work areas / process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals.

Adhere to government, contract, and company policies and procedures.

Use e‑mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.

Maintain a safe and secure work environment.

Adhere to company quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Perform duties in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

This position supports the DOD on a federal installation and the candidate must be available to work at the assigned physical location during business hours.

Shift: 6:00AM-3:00PM or 8:00AM-5:00PM

Requirements Education and/or Experience

U.S. Citizen.

Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days, if required.

Possess a valid Driver's License.

Must have a high school diploma / GED or equivalent.

Completion of company mandated training applicable to the position.

Preferred: Current active SECRET security clearance.

Preferred: Military experience.

Language Skills The employee must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, write, comprehend, and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails, and other correspondence from internal and external sources. The role requires effective communication and presentation skills to convey information to customers, clients, internal staff, and other employees. The employee must interpret instructions and information and clearly explain them to others in English while performing job duties. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, effective follow-up skills, and ability to perform common mathematical tasks. Must be able to report to work consistently, work assigned shift hours and possess a valid driver's license. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Physical Demands Required to walk, stand, sit, and move about the property for long periods of time. Must be able to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs and full-body movement, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials. May be required to exert moderate physical effort in loading, unloading, and arranging equipment and supplies. Must work indoors and/or outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot, cold, damp, dusty, and dirty environments, and on hard or uneven surfaces. Handle equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds individually, and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance. Must possess visual acuity to review written documentation and ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels. Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions.

Work Environment / Hours This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions require on-site performance. May be exposed to inclement/extreme weather conditions. Noise level may vary from moderate to high. Must work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. If applicable, work 10+ hours per day, requiring flexibility to accommodate mission requirements including weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required.

Transportation & Access:

Must have reliable transportation to and from work and be able to access military installations.

Background & Drug Screening:

Employment requires passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug and alcohol testing may also occur without prior notice.

Timesheets:

Record actual work hours daily and ensure entries are accurate and timely.

Dress & Punctuality:

Arrive on time and dress appropriately for your shift.

Background Investigations All employees are required to undergo an initial background investigation as a condition of employment. Additionally, employees may be subject to subsequent investigations if circumstances warrant. Employees assigned to work on federal installations must comply with government-mandated background investigations, independent of the company's investigations. Employment and continued assignment are contingent upon successfully meeting and maintaining these requirements.
