
Flooring Repairer

Summary
Leads and performs skilled journey-level work required to inspect, treat, install, maintain, repair, and recondition tile, linoleum, and wood surface material for floors and cabinet tops.
Qualifications Required
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
Three (3) years of experience in floor maintenance experience, one (1) year of which shall have been at the journey level.
Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
Knowledge of methods and skills in the use of floor maintenance equipment, materials, and tools.
Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
Knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
Capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetical computations.
Preferred
Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
Leads and performs skilled journey-level work to remove floor surface materials that are defective due to wear, breakage, or damage by sanding, refinishing, cleaning, and sealing of floors.
Inspects floors in buildings at regular intervals to determine work to be scheduled.
Sands and refinishes floors in gyms, stages, classroom wood floors, gym seats, and portable stages.
Coats floor surfaces and lays covering materials on cement.
Rolls or presses finished surface.
Installs tile on new or refinished floors.
Installs and repairs rubber step treads.
Replaces rubber base molding in hallways and classrooms.
Performs work on-site or in a shop.
Drives a vehicle to and from locations and keeps the vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
Performs operator maintenance on the vehicle and keeps it in orderly condition.
Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
