Total Vehicle Evaluation Engineer I
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Engineer II for the Total Vehicle Evaluation Team.
The Team The Total Vehicle Evaluation Team focuses on the comprehensive evaluation and performance management of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis NA vehicle models, coordinating with other teams to achieve development goals for each vehicle program in the North American market.
The Position The Total Vehicle Evaluation Engineer II would support corporate goals of maintaining safety, improving customer satisfaction, reducing warranty costs, and enhancing the public image of HMG (Hyundai Motor Group) products in the North American market by overseeing total vehicle performance management via static and dynamic evaluations of HMG vehicles.
What you will do
Evaluate the total performance (e.g., powertrain, ride and handling, NVH, brakes, ADAS, human factors, etc.) of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis prototype, pilot, and production vehicles
Plan, organize, and execute ride-and-drive activities for prototype and pilot Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles
Plan and organize vehicle test events, including proving ground tests, off-road venue tests, and cross-functional seasonal tests (i.e., hot/cold weather)
Support new model development by organizing and executing benchmarking activities on competitive vehicles
Conduct on-road evaluations of in-vehicle advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
Collect objective data during ride-and-drive activities, including updating vehicles as needed
Perform subjective vehicle evaluations, identify potential customer complaint issues, investigate root causes, and recommend potential countermeasures
Track the development statuses of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis prototype and pilot vehicle projects
Perform customer feedback analysis and research activities via various data sources (i.e., J.D. Power IQS, Consumer Reports, and social media) to identify areas for improvement
Collaborate with the respective North American HQs of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis on how to enhance market competitiveness and brand value via pre- and post-production activities
Conduct vehicle evaluations at Hyundai and Kia's North American manufacturing plants
Summarize media reviews and customer feedback concerning Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles
Support additional development activities at HATCI's automotive proving ground in California City, CA
Support other technical groups as needed
Create and present clear and concise technical reports for upper management to review
Travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally, to support product development, testing, and promotional activities
What you will bring to the role
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field of study
0-3+ years of relevant engineering experience in the automotive industry
Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, including NVH, ride and handling, brake systems, control systems, and powertrain systems
Knowledge of human factors and ergonomics concepts
Working knowledge of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as Smart Cruise Control, Lane Centering Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance, etc.
Excellent computer skills and experience with in-vehicle data collection and performance measurement tools
Data and root cause analysis skills
Comfortable operating in settings with the following conditions and expectations:
Proficiency with Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word
Flexibility with program and process changes, as Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is willing to make late changes to satisfy customer needs
Adept at planning, executing, and monitoring technical projects
Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
Project management experience
Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
