Summary Responsible for underwriting consumer loans received online, by the call center or through retail branch locations to increase company revenue by reviewing loan applications with supporting documentation and decisioning loans based on established criteria.
Qualifications & Education
Associate's degree or four years directly related experience.
Minimum two years loan underwriting experience
Strong understanding of consumer loan contracts including APR, amortization schedule, and simple interest calculations
Knowledge of credit union lending policy, lending regulations, and lending fundamentals preferred
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Job Duties
Review and analyze an applicant's consumer loan application based on credit rating, borrowing history, and other risk factors.
Monitors application queues and provides timely decisions.
Engages applicants on pending consumer loan applications before 30 days to provide a decision.
Identify leads and opportunities for other Teachers products to deepen the member relationship. Responsible for timely communication of loan decision and other lending opportunities to the branch representative assisting the applicants.
Analyze financial data such as proof of income and/or tax returns to verify the applicant's ability to repay and perform a fraud review.
Discusses adverse actions according to proper regulatory guidelines with applicants as needed.
Answers tier questions by phone, chat, or email from the branch and call center personnel during normal business hours.
Makes recommendations on policy and procedure changes based on changes in the lending environment.
Assists branch personnel, Consumer Loan Processors and Analysts, in an underwriting capacity, as needed during normal business hours.
