Job Description The Campus Ministry Communications Specialist manages communications efforts on behalf of Campus Ministry, one of six areas within the Division of Student Affairs dedicated to cultivating and caring for the spiritual needs of all students who call Notre Dame home.
Rooted in the Catholic, Holy Cross tradition, Campus Ministry fosters personal spiritual growth, encourages participation in the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church, supports various forms of worship and personal prayer, provides opportunities for pilgrimages, retreats and service, and seeks to enhance and develop lifelong faith formation.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Ministry, the Communications Specialist plays a central role in the development and implementation of communications materials on behalf of Campus Ministry and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The role involves maintaining existing communications processes and policies, advancing a robust, engaging, and authentic social media presence, and supervising student workers and freelance specialists. The Communications Specialist collaborates with Campus Ministry staff and numerous campus partners to promote awareness of the area’s offerings, resources, and services to students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, the local community, and the wider Church.
Work in partnership with the Assistant Vice President for Campus Ministry, Area directors, and Campus Ministry colleagues to develop, implement, and assess communication tactics for promoting programs, liturgies, and events.
Grow and maintain an established social media presence to build relationships with current and potential students.
Manage communications with internal contacts, outside vendors, consultants; hire and supervise student workers in social media and design; capture photography, write news stories, and perform administrative duties including budgeting, scheduling, and ordering specialty items.
Oversee stewardship of the Campus Ministry and Basilica websites, e‑newsletter, social media accounts, and existing promotional channels.
Serve on the Leadership Team to articulate and execute the mission and vision of Campus Ministry through a communications lens, and collaborate with other areas within the Division of Student Affairs and university units to enhance the department’s outreach.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields.
At least three years of professional experience in communications, marketing, project management, social media management, design, photography, and/or strategic planning.
Experience working in a church or ministry setting is a plus.
Understanding of and commitment to the University’s Catholic identity and ability to communicate with college students.
Proven ability to develop, organize, deploy, and manage multiple priorities, projects, and communications resources.
Demonstrated experience developing multi‑layered promotional campaigns using design applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
Strong understanding of social media strategy and ability to manage multiple platforms to create engaging content and increase reach.
Adept in photography and videography, with working knowledge of production equipment and editing software.
Familiarity with web content management software and best practices.
Appreciation for and willingness to learn and implement new and emerging technologies.
Robust writing and editing skills.
Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively and tactfully with Student Affairs, Campus Ministry colleagues, university leadership, and stakeholders.
Additional Information Salary: Up to $55,000.
